The figure is the same in every work. The mask does not change. The pattern does not negotiate.

What changes is the institution.

In each work, the coded figure — rooted in West African visual language — enters one of the world’s most powerful organising structures. It does not convert. It does not adapt. It stands fully itself inside a space that was not built for it.

And in doing so, it converts the space.

THE CONVERSION SERIES · III

The Champion

The sport is the most honest of all the institutions. There are no vestments here, no ceremony, no inherited title. Only the body.

The figure enters the ring carrying its own geometry — the belt already coded, the gloves already worn, the mask already present before any opponent arrives.

The concentric rays behind it are not applause. They were already there.

It did not come to win. It came to be seen.
